K-ON! has been one of those series that one gets obsessed about. For me I heard about the series in passing but never checked it out. It wasn't until i won the PV Yui figure from a UFO catcher, posted my winnings on twitter and then had people chime in how awesome the show…

FOOD SPOT: Quina Taco Rice in Kichijoji

Posted by atomicboyx On Sunday, September 5, 2010 0 comments

Since I work in Kichijoji, i try to find new places to eat. Sometimes it can actually be difficult when looking for a variety of food because so much is the same in many places. Quina give a little change to the standard with their Taco Rice. Now this isnt simply Mexican style taco meat on rice because Japanese Taco Rice apparently has its origins coming from Okinawa and is spiced up by using soy sauce mirin and sake.

Quina is located in Kichijoji in the Sun Road shopping area. Its a little hidden among the small standing bars on the outskirts of the Sun Road shotengai. You will have to enter from the left side to a tiny counter and place your order. Every month they have a new special dish which for September the are including Chorizo! Sounds tasty, but considering the price it is actually worth it, especially those who have the spicy meat craving I get.

The place it tiny and seats about 18 people, but its got a slightly retro and casual vibe. When visiting the west side of Tokyo, Kichijoji is a great place to stop off for a meal to enjoy.

ONLY IN JAPAN: PIMP toilet paper

Posted by atomicboyx On 0 comments

I was in Shinjuku San-Chome area with my BF meeting some people for drinks, who were going to attend a lecture he was going to appear at the following day. For me i wasnt able to follow along very well what the conversation was about because it was so fast in Japanese. I decided to head to the tolet to get away from the chaos for a moment. In there I found these awesome rolls of toilet paper! The design is over the top just for some simple cheap toilet paper.

I wanted to take at least one to have, but i didnt have a bag with me, so i settled for this picture instead. What do you think of this design?

OTAKU MOMENT: Cat Shit One manga & anime

The used book store Book-Off has a so many off the wall manga available. Thumbing through shelf after shelf looking for a cool new series to pick up on the cheap is kind of fun to so during my off time. One such manga I found is called Cat Shit One. The name alone is amazing, and that its all about war with little fuzzy animals!

Cat Shit One 80 Manga Found in Book-Off for 105yen

One thing I found out, that the reason the US soldiers are rabbits is because in Japanese USAGI is rabbit and taking the first part USA for United States of America. Interesting right?

This past July a CG animated series started in Japan. It is slightly off setting due to the fact that its very realistic in its rendering and movement, but they are cute fuzzy animals. Check out the preview and the first full episode below and tell me what you think of the fuzzy violence.

ONLY IN JAPAN: "TREASURE BOX" Vending machines

Posted by atomicboyx On 1 comments

I found this one night coming back from dinner with my friends in Minami-Asagaya. I had walked passed this area a few times before, but never noticed it. This vending machine says you can win iPods, digital cameras, PSP's and more all for just 1000yen. Of course its all at random, so you dont know what you might get. The fact is this type of machine exists, and its not even in a busy area like Shinjuku or Shibuya. The machine says they are Brand name real items....hmmmmm....

The location of this machine is on a non-heavy walked area between Ogikubo station and Minami-Asagaya station on the west side of Tokyo. Maybe if i have some extra cash and im feeling lucky ill try and get a treasure from this machine. Would you be willing to try it? Tell me in the comments below.

I do hope this shop comes back too. NOM NOM NOM!

FOOD SPOT: Choco Cro in Kichijoji

Coffee and snack shop ChocoCro has many locations, the one i stopped in was in Kichijoji, about 20 minutes west of Shinjuku on the Chuo line. They have many different snacks, but one of the best is the Strawberry and custard waffle sprinkled in powder sugar. Of course their signature namesake, the chocolate croissant is equally delicious!
